Wine Worth Knowing
Why Rhône Valley Whites Are Some of the Most Underrated Bottles in France
The Rhône Valley is built on red wine. Syrah in the north. Grenache in the south. These are the grapes that built the region’s reputation — warm, generous reds that are genuinely easy to love. The whites, by contrast, tend to get overlooked. Which is exactly why they’re worth paying attention to.
What makes southern Rhône whites interesting is how different they are from almost anything else in France — a blend of grapes that manages to be both rich and alive at the same time.
Famille Perrin have been farming the Rhône for five generations. They’re the family behind Château de Beaucastel — one of the most celebrated estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a wine that can age for decades and regularly appears on the best wine lists in the world. The Signature range sits a level below that, but it draws on exactly the same philosophy: organic farming, family-owned vineyards, and an uncompromising focus on wines that taste of somewhere rather than something.
The bottle I’ve picked for April is their Signature Blanc 2025. Organically produced, with a real focus on quality, freshness, and sheer drinkability. Expect bright stone fruit, a touch of white pepper spice, and an inviting, mid-weight body — wonderfully aromatic, with impressive depth. A seriously delicious white that overdelivers in every way.
Drink it with roasted chicken, creamy pasta, grilled fish, or simply an evening that doesn’t need a reason.
