Sharpham was one of the pioneers of the English wine scene, planting vines back in the early 1980s—well before the current buzz. Now operating from their new home at Sandridge Barton in Devon, the estate continues to impress with a blend of traditional winemaking and fresh thinking.
Their Classic Cuvée is based on the traditional Champagne grapes—Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier—but with a twist: a small addition of Pinot Gris adds a subtle aromatic lift. This is a generous, easygoing English fizz that’s incredibly approachable. Expect notes of baked apple, peach and sultana all wrapped up with a hint of savoury nuttiness. Very enjoyable, and a great shout for celebrating the homegrown pioneers of English wine.
